Located on the estuary of the River Arade, Portimão is known for its excellent sandy beaches with warm, calm waters, making it a very seductive holiday destination.

Portimão has a long fishing tradition, where you can visit the excellent restoration of an old factory, the Portimão Museum.
It´s in the riverside area that you can try the grilled sardines, followed by a sea walk around the Marina.

Just six kilometres from Portimão is the fishing village of Alvor, where it retains its charm with its streets of white houses and colourful boats. At the highest point there are some stretches of castle walls, but the highlight is the Mother Church with its profusely carved 16th century portico and the panorama that can be seen from the churchyard over the sea and the Ria, which has a special charm at dawn when absolute tranquillity reigns.
