Just six kilometres from Portimão is the fishing village of Alvor, where it retains its charm with its streets of white houses and colourful boats. At the highest point there are some stretches of castle walls, but the highlight is the Mother Church with its profusely carved 16th century portico and the panorama that can be seen from the churchyard over the sea and the Ria, which has a special charm at dawn when absolute tranquillity reigns.

But to get the full picture of the Portimão area, you need to appreciate it from all angles. For example, on a boat trip along the coast to see beaches inaccessible by land and admire the rock formations.
